One of the benefits of belonging to a family association such as the Tufts Kinsmen Association is the opportunity to share information specific to the family. An example is medical history inquiries.

Please assist one of our Canadian family members in her quest for Tufts relatives who have been diagnosed with Spinocerebellar Ataxia SCA 7, which is a rare genetic disease that occurs in her family. Please see the message from Lisa ( Tufts ) McDermott below.

Calling all Tufts Kinsmen, I need your help!

I am looking for some information concerning a neurological condition that has been passed down in my Tufts family and I looking to see if there is any other extended Tufts families affected.

I know that our family from St. Martins, New Brunswick, Canada has distant connections with Tufts in Nova Scotia and Massachusetts U.S.A.

What is Ataxia more information https://ataxia.org/what-is-ataxia/ from National Ataxia Foundation

Have other Tufts family members been diagnosed with Ataxia? Do you know which type? What was the age of symptom onset?

If there is anyone else out there in the Tufts family who has any information on this matter I would appreciate any input.

Thank you,

Lisa ( Tufts ) McDermott
