The Tufts Kinsmen Association was created in 1975 by Herbert Adams. See our History section for a full description of the association’s past.
Today, we are a small group of Tufts descendants who meet annually and enjoy sharing our family history through the book, Tufts Kinsmen (2010). We hope to reach a larger audience through this website, continue the research of the Tufts families, and build an online community of engaged descendants and cousins.
The Tufts Kinsmen book is based on the families descended from Peter Tufts who emigrated from England to Charlestown, Massachusetts before 1638. The Tufts Kinsmen Association’s purpose is described in our By-Laws:
“The object and purpose of the Tufts Kinsmen Association… is to be educational in character and devoted to furthering Tufts family heritage research and promoting interest in Tufts family history.”
This mission is not limited to the Peter Tufts family. There are many other Tufts families, including lines of European and African-American descent, many other spellings of surnames related to Tufts, and other countries of origin. There is some information on the families descended from people other than Peter Tufts the immigrant in the Tufts Family Collection held at Tufts University.
